Course Manager Vacancy

A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced Course Manager or a Deputy Course Manager wishing to make the step up to raise the standards of our beautiful parkland golf course.

Stand Golf Club is a private members 18-hole golf course in North Manchester and widely regarded in the local area.

The successful candidate will hold suitable professional qualifications and be capable of producing a golf course all year round in excellent condition and be able to manage a team of up to 5 greenkeepers.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Golf course, grounds, gardens, practice facilities and maintenance facilities.

Main duties / Key responsibilities

  • Manage the golf course and the green keeping team, in accordance with the Club’s golf course maintenance policy and the health and safety policy
  • Work with the Greens director on future plans for the golf course.
  • Carry out effective turf maintenance practices through the establishment of schedules and programmes of annual, monthly, weekly, and daily maintenance, which maximise the efficiency of the golf course.
  • Prepare the course for play including marking hazards and GURs and ensuring tee markers, bunkers, golf furniture and general green maintenance is carried out.
  • Work alongside our consultants to ensure best practices.
  • Supervise construction and renovation projects.
  • Supervise the preparation and maintenance of machines for use.
  • Have experience in development & maintenance of course drainage.
  • Ensure that all faults and defects relating to the condition of the course, equipment, tools, building, etc. within the remit of grounds maintenance are reported to the Green Director
  • Take all responsible steps to protect the health, safety and welfare of all employees, patrons, and visitors, by following all legislative guidelines for the preparation, use and disposal of chemicals, the safe use of tools, plant and equipment and promoting safe working practices in all areas of operation at the course.
  • Leadership skills - applicants must be able to lead, supervise, delegate, and prioritise work schedules so the green keeping team are informed and efficient in their day-to-day tasks.
  • Utilise IT programs including Microsoft Office Suite to record & update all relevant course maintenance, budgeting & planning.
  • Communicate effectively with management and members on a regular basis.
  • Be aware of and keep up to date of best practices on environmental issues.

Personal Attributes

  • Able to think strategically with the vision to improve the course as well as manage tasks on a day-to-day basis.
  • A highly motivated, passionate individual who takes great pride in their work and has a keen eye for detail, presentation, and aesthetics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in managing, motivating, and developing a small team and allocating workloads effectively.
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks competently.
  • A high degree of flexibility and willing to ‘go the extra mile’ if required.
  • Manage own personal development.

Knowledge and Experience Essential

  • Knowledge of agronomy, with suitably recognised greenkeeping qualifications; NVQ level 3
  • Spraying qualifications – PA1, PA2, PA6
  • Chainsaw qualifications

Desirable

  • Being an active golfer would be an advantage
  • Minimum 5 years’ greenkeeping experience
  • NVQ level 4
  • Ability to operate a Tractor and Digger
