Captains Newsletter!

March 2010

I will commence my 1st newsletter by thanking all my family, members of Stand Golf Club and personal friends for their support at my drive in held on Sunday 7th March 2010. Congratulations to Gary Spann and Phil Toye for an incredible score on a fantastic spring day. The idea of re-introducing the newsletter is to keep the membership updated with up and coming details and changes in the forthcoming year. In particular CASC and the pending pipeline works. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking my council, some old, some new for having a positive and pro-active outlook for the forthcoming year. The Chairmen have been given specifics and are looking forward to the challenge that lies before them.

In response to Keith Dingley’s request at The AGM in reference to a text messaging service to members of forthcoming events. This was debated at Council and Paul Hadfield has taken responsibility for investigating the issues around this and he shall report back to me with his findings. I shall report further on this matter as and when I have further information.

Dress Code

I wish to bring to light the dress code within the rules and regulations of Stand Golf Club. I would ask all members to ensure that they are fully conversant with this ruling. All members should adhere and respect the standards and etiquette associated with Stand Golf Club. I have asked Council members not to tolerate inappropriate dress and conduct.

Social Events

The Captain’s 1st fling is proving a success already, with the membership filling the sheet as soon as it is posted on the social notice board. Hopefully this shall continue throughout the year along with the ever popular Candlelit Dinners. I feel that the membership appreciates that we have one of the best chef’s in our area.

Greens

I find the course to be good condition for the time of the year, the greens are running true and last week a reading of 7 was registered on the stimp meter. The jar held behind the bar represents the proceeds of The Captain’s charity bunker which is situated along the left hand side of the 13th green. Either people are not being honest and failing to contribute (50p) or are seriously good golfers. Since its conception on The Captains Drive In there has only been approximately £5 put in the jar. (The Vice Captain contributed £1.00 of this being in it twice in one round of golf). On a serious note this is for Charity and as you are aware Stand Golf Club and its membership prides itself on supporting local charities.

Handicaps and Competitions

The 1st major will soon be upon us. It is now time to get out the clubs from the loft give them a good dusting down and a little practice may be necessary for some of us. I wish you all good luck in the competitions ahead. Beware: Jack Booth has his spies out and shall be receiving reports of exceptionally good rounds of golf!

House

Support of the bar and catering facilities has been very good over the winter months. This is clearly due to the exceptional service and quality of food and drink served upon us by Gavin and Bill. Please support our bar and kitchen it really is the best. Jeff Clements our new House Chairman will be pleased to hear of and constructive criticisms that you may have.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to digest the information within this newsletter. Please feel free to speak with any member of Council or myself directly should you wish to do so.

Should you be reading this newsletter in hard copy format and you would prefer to receive it by email thereby protecting the environment please hand your email address into the office
